How to Submit

The Child Writing Project (CWP) is a beloved tradition at CCT. Each year, hundreds of stories are collected from students throughout Ohio, of which 15-20 are selected to be compiled into the annual CWP- a live theatrical performance!

Calling all Heroic Tales! Original story submissions about superheroes, villains, sidekicks, and real-life heroes are welcome for this super story theme. Submission deadline will be March 1, 2019; chosen stories will be performed by our Resident Artists for the 35th Anniversary of the Child Writing Project!

How to Submit

The CWP is open to any school age student in K-6th grade in public, private, and home schools. Submissions may be a song, story, poem, or play written by an individual or a group, either serious or comedic, true or fictional, and MUST BE ORIGINAL! Pieces should be about 30 seconds to 2 minutes in length (we suggest reading it aloud and timing it), or about one to one and a half pages. Parents and teachers are welcome to discuss the elements of a good story with the authors and edit for spelling and grammar, but students should be the ones to edit content. Remember, originality and creativity are very important for the CWP!

Final drafts may be submitted via mail to Columbus Children’s Theatre, Child Writing Project, 177 E. Naghten St., Columbus, OH 43215 OR as a PDF via email to (only PDFs can be accepted!). Submissions must include the following at the top of the first page: title of story; author’s first and last names (if multiple authors include each name); school name, address, and phone number; and teacher’s name and email address.
